I just received an email from Dr. William Hamblin who is currently studying at a seminar in Oxford, England, and he said he had the unique opportunity to have a lunch today with Methodist scholar Margaret Barker about her intriguing and in-depth research into temple studies. Barker graciously permitted him to film the conversation, and [...]
If you have not been able to tell, one of my top role models and mentors is Dr. Hugh Winder Nibley, former BYU professor and highly esteemed LDS scholar. He was and is still considered the foremost LDS scholar and apologist of this century, and perhaps of all time. And he was a genius. Once [...]
Elder Russell M. Nelson said this in a devotional he gave on December 10, 2002 at BYU:
The time is coming when those who do not obey the Lord will be separated from those who do. Our safest insurance is to continue to be worthy of admission to His holy house. How blessed we are to [...]

As someone recently quipped, “I’m so glad Nibley’s not letting a little thing like being dead slow down his publishing schedule!”
Another volume in the Collected Works of Hugh Nibley series is being officially released on August 6, 2008 (it’s already available in Deseret Book stores). This volume will be the third volume published since Hugh [...]

Here is the latest very well done compilation by Mike Batie of officially published photographs of the newest Twin Falls Idaho Temple. Enjoy!
I just posted my review of the Disney/Pixar movie WALL-E over at Millennial Star. See it here. Be forewarned - I didn’t like it much.
Update (7/14/08): And, of course, since the issue is environmentalism, it eroded quickly.
Here is another media preview of the new Twin Falls Temple that comes from Local News channel 8 in Idaho Falls and Pocatello Idaho. It gives more details concerning the murals in the garden room, painted by Rexburg artist Leon Parson. Parson skillfully included the Idaho Shoshone Falls in the depiction of the [...]
The Church has produced a short video for the media describing the newest temple of the Church in Twin Falls, Idaho, and the open house that will be occurring there from July 11th through August 16th, 2008 (8am-8pm, except Sundays and Mondays after 6pm).
This video comes from Times-News at MagicValley.com. It is introduced by Elder [...]
I was thinking yesterday that there might be more to the common saying “asking for her hand in marriage.” Doing a few searches and I found that some believe it comes from a medieval ritual known as handfasting. Today it has been adopted by certain Neopagan groups as part of their engagement or marriage rituals, [...]

For those of you who don’t want to wade through my analysis of the Oxford degree ceremony in the last part, or if you’d just like to see what the presentation is like, the degree ceremony that took place on September 28, 2007 at Oxford University was formally videotaped and posted on [...]
Video created by the LDS Church to commemorate and celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ action in June 1978 to extend its lay priesthood to men of all races - entitled “He Inviteth Us All.” The revelation from God came quite clear from heaven to prophets and apostles [...]

First of all I’d like to thank all those who have participated in the TempleStudy feedback that was posted yesterday. I have received a good number of responses, and most were very positive. Some even compared my methodology, albeit detrimentally, as similar to Hugh Nibley’s, for which I could not be more flattered. [...]

The television station KREX Channel 5 from Grand Junction, Colorado, aired a news piece yesterday about the “Sacred Secrets of the LDS Church.” You can see the video above.
I think that the news anchors, save being as objective and unaffected as anchors could possibly be, did a decent job of trying to understand what [...]
Yesterday lds9999 posted on LDS.net an awesome collection of 125 videos that he has been putting together of all the temples around the world. The amount of work he must have put into this project is staggering to think about.
I have made a new permanent page, Videos, to begin collecting all of these great videos [...]
The Curitiba Brazil Temple public open house began a couple days ago, on May 10th, and will run through May 24th. Can’t attend? Mike Batie has put together another well-done video of official photographs of the outside and inside of this new temple. It does the good service of feeling like you [...]
Here is yet another excellent temple video, this time of the interior of the Newport Beach California Temple. It was compiled by a member of the church, mikebatie on YouTube, from official photos published by the Church, taken probably during the time of the open house of the temple before the dedication. The [...]

I can’t remember where I originally heard about the new Olivewood bookstore. It may have been in the Bloggernacle somewhere - perhaps FAIR. In any case, I had heard enough about this store that I decided that I had to visit it. It is located at 3330 N University Ave. Suite C [...]

The sacred ceremonies in which new monarchs are crowned kings and queens in the United Kingdom have significant parallels to the LDS Mormon endowment. These traditions stem from ancient times in English history, and have remained relatively unchanged in form throughout ages. The most recent coronation ceremony was on June 2, 1953, when [...]

This is another excellent video which is a compilation of several videos/photos that have been published of the interior of various temples. These appear to be official Church clips/photos that have been compiled by a member of the Church.
The temple is truly the most beautiful place on earth.
In 2002 the Church released a documentary on LDS temples that was originally broadcast between sessions of General Conference. It is entitled “Between Heaven and Earth” and is available on VHS or DVD at Deseret Book, Church Distribution, or the BYU Bookstore. It is being shown at temple open houses and in temple [...]
